Rumi Reuben, a specialist psychiatrist at the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, revealed the facts to ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper on Sunday. It has been further mentioned that the number of patients visiting psychiatrists has doubled in other government hospitals as well.
The specialist psychiatrist has revealed that the main causes of this situation are uncertainty about life and the negative background regarding all matters. It has been revealed that there are cases where this stressful situation is expressed as social hatred.
Psychiatrist Rumi Reuben has further emphasized that conducting a special survey on those suffering from mental illness due to economic pressure is necessary.
