Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, requests the government led by the President and relevant government institutions to make the necessary arrangements without delaying the local government elections that have been announced.
The Catholic Church’s media spokesman Father Cyril Gamini Fernando presented this announcement to the media during a press conference.
The announcement further stated that if the reason for postponing the vote is the rising public dissatisfaction with the government, they should be humble enough to face it and change according to the results. It has been further mentioned in the special announcement that they think the leaders of our country have enough intelligence to avoid going down in history as cowards who fear defeat.
