Anti-riot police were deployed to attack with teargas the peaceful protest of the National People’s Power (NPP) held in front of the Kurunegala clock tower demanding the immediate holding of the local government elections.
The protest was held despite severe interference by the police officers deployed to disrupt the peaceful protest participated by a mammoth crowd.
