An agitation calling the masses to “Defeat government’s cowardly attempt to deny elections to the masses that buries democracy!” was held at Kalutara town today (18th), attended by a large crowd.
Some of the slogans displayed by the agitators read, “Hold the election on the appointed day! Hands-off democracy!
Defeat government’s vile effort to disrupt the election!
Government officials, don’t get overwhelmed by unconstitutional orders!
LG election need not be sacrificed for the sake of power hunger of Ranil – Rajapaksa government!
Government without a mandate, afraid of public opinion, attempts to eliminate the election!
Hands off people’s right to vote!
A meeting was held at the end of the agitation where several speakers, including the Member of the JVP Central Committee and the Executive Committee of the NPP, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa addressed the crowd.
