The Supreme Court has declared today (10th) that there is no obstacle to holding the upcoming local government elections as planned by the Election Commission.
It is related to the petition presented to the Supreme Court asking the Election Commission to issue a Writ Order to suspend the conduct of local government elections.
The Supreme Court has also stated that since the Election Commission is responsible for protecting universal suffrage, which is the people’s right and also it has given a pledge before the court that the election will be conducted properly, there is no need for the court to issue orders in this regard.
