Amila Weragoda, Chairman of SLPP-affiliated Kadugannawa Urban Council, was arrested on the 24th by the CID in connection with a case of forging passports to the Department of Immigration and Emigration and taking the wives of LTTE cadres abroad. Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala ordered yesterday (25th) to release him on a cash bail of Rs. 20,000 and personal bail of Rs. 500,000.
CID informed the court that although it has been revealed that the suspect had taken wives of LTTE cadres to foreign countries, no evidence has been found yet in this regard.
The Magistrate instructed the CID to file a separate case against the suspect if any such incident is revealed and take future action accordingly.
