Complaint to Human Rights Commission regarding police protecting egg thugs

A complaint was lodged with the Human Rights Commission today (17th ) alleging that the thugs who attacked the Gampaha District Convention of the National People’s Power on January 30 had not been arrested by the police and had not been produced in court. Bandula Senarath and Upul Senaka had lodged a complaint with the police regarding the attack.
Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala submitted the petition to the Human Rights Commission regarding the failure of the police to conduct an impartial investigation into their complaint. National Executive Member of the National People’s Power Mahinda Jayasinghe was also present at the occasion.
The IGP, the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province and five others have been named as respondents. The main point of the complaint lodged with the Human Rights Commission is that the police had threatened the two victims who had complained to the police about being attacked by thugs.
As such, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka was requested to recommend that the action taken by the police against the victims was in violation of Articles 11 and 12 (1) of the Constitution.
