Lawyers of the National People’s Power (NPP) held a media briefing at the JVP head office at Pelawatta today afternoon (15th). It was held to brief the media on several recent incidents, including the arrest of Shehan Malaka Gamage, a civil activist in Panadura yesterday (14th), and the recent acts of violations of democracy and the rule of law.
The attack on the Gampaha District Convention of the NPP on January 30, the arrest of Shehan Malaka Gamage, the summoning of the writer and social media activist Manorama Weerasinghe to the CID and the attack on the house of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema were among the national issues discussed. NPP lawyers expressed their views.
Lawyers Sunil Watagala, Harsha Nanayakkara and Upul Kumarapperuma were present at the press conference.
