President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to cultivate green gram in paddy fields where paddy cannot be grown.
The government has also decided to assist in the cultivation of green gram as a supplementary crop during the inter-season and in paddy lands where paddy cannot be cultivated.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has taken this decision considering the information received during his visit to observe the duties of the Agrarian Development Department.
The President has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to provide financial assistance to farmers to obtain seeds for green gram cultivation as a supplementary crop in paddy fields where paddy cannot be cultivated during the Yala season and due to lack of irrigation facilities.
