JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday (Jan. 19) said that the JVP)and its trade union movement would not remain silent or submit to the Rajapaksa seven-party government’s process of selling the country’s resources. He said they would come forward to reverse the agreements signed to hand over the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm to India and transfer shares of the Kerawalapitiya LNG Plant to a US Company.
The JVP Leader made these comments at a rally organized by the party in Colombo yesterday after a massive demonstration to oppose the selling of national resources.
Mr Dissanayake further said that the government’s policy of selling local resources would be defeated, adding that all people have a responsibility to protect the national resources of the Motherland. The JVP Leader said that the Rajapaksa government was selling all the country’s valuable resources and that the government had become patriotic only in name.
He said that the JVP would fight against the handing over of Trincomalee oil tanks to India and win the battles in the future to protect the Ceylon Electricity Board, protect the ancient resources, and continue to protect the resources of the country. He said they would continue their struggle to oust the present rulers that hinder the country’s development.
He further said that the ruling and the opposition parties that have selling the country’s resources as their agendas should be defeated and a people’s government established to protect the Motherland.
