SLFP – SLPP split imminent?

It has been revealed that SLPP leaders have discussed the removal of SLFP ministers in the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle due to them criticizing President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government.
According to political sources, the cabinet reshuffle is expected to occur on the 10th of this month. The SLFP holds two cabinet portfolios and two state ministerial portfolios in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government. There are 14 SLFP MPs in parliament.
SLFP MPs Nimal Siripala de Silva and Mahinda Amaraweera as cabinet ministers and Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Duminda Dissanayake as state ministers are in Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government.
The Gotabhaya Rajapaksa government has long been critical of SLFP MPs as well as ministers, while former President Maithripala Sirisena, as the President of the SLFP, has on several occasions criticized the government. With the removal of Minister Susil Premajayantha from the ministry, it is reported that all SLFP members have started severely criticizing the government, and the government will have to remove the SLFP members from their ministerial posts.
