Changing the secretaries of the Ministry of Agriculture or changing the heads of the Ministry would not solve the problems in the agriculture sector, says Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. He says that it is useless to blame the agronomists as what they had stated about the country facing food shortages have come true.
He was speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (29th). He further said that he had apologized to the farmers for the situation they faced last season and asked them to work to prevent it from happening again this season. However, unfortunately, more and more mistakes have been made, and he added that it is necessary to apologize to the farmers not once but thousands of times.
On the whole, four secretaries have been appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture in the Scientific Cabinet appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
