A trawler anchored in the Kudawella fishing harbour was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out at midnight yesterday (6th).
‘Jayanethu’ the trawler was destroyed in the fire, and another trawler anchored nearby too had caught fire. However, the fishermen had taken action to extinguish the fire. The fire caused minor damage to the vessel.
Commenting on the fire, the watchman of the vessel said that the fire started suddenly inside the vessel. That was from where the gas tanks were. Sarath Wijesinghe, the watchman said, “Suddenly there was a fire in the gas tank of the boat. The fire could not be extinguished. The fire spread to another vessel nearby. We were able to put out the fire.”
