The Cabinet has decided to pay Rs. 2.5 million as compensation to the family members of Priyantha, who was killed in Pakistan.
The Cabinet which met yesterday (6th) has taken this decision. It has been decided to obtain this amount from the Employees Welfare Fund of the Bureau of Foreign Employment. Thus, it is not a government-mediated compensation but compensation from a fund set up to provide relief to foreign workers in the event of such a disaster.
A serious question has arisen whether Cabinet approval is required to pay compensation from that fund.
