Failure to implement recommendations of intellectuals is a disaster for the country

It would be a disaster for the country if the government could not implement recommendations made by scientists and professors based on their experience and knowledge, says Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Senior Professor Upul B. Wijewardena.
The former Vice-Chancellor was speaking at a media briefing held in Peradeniya yesterday (28th) to respond to the government for not accepting the recommendations of the professors and scientists who have joined to support specific measures taken by the government and instead of criticizing them.
He emphasized that the country could not be prevented from falling into the abyss due to the depletion of intelligence of the country’s administration, and the country would be in a state of decline instead of advancing in the modern technological world due to the depletion of intelligence of the administration.
“Governments that govern the country should not socialize their or their associates’ ideas, but the opinions and recommendations of scientists, intellectuals and experts who make recommendations based on research, experience and knowledge. That is what has happened to the fertilizer problem so far.
Specialists in various fields are stepping out or are being removed. It is a disgrace to the intellect. The intellectual makes decisions based on facts he has and with his own experience.
Karl Marx has stated that a country cannot be ruled without middle-class intellectuals. A country cannot move forward by bringing down and despising the scholars who express actual and intellectual ideas, who are pro-country and knowledgeable to carry out the ideas of intellectuals, who express only their own opinions,” he emphasized.
