The Minister of Lands H.M. Chandrasena has presented a cabinet memorandum to hand over 500-acre government land to a private company in defiance of an eviction order issued by the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court.
On April 22, 2016, the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court ordered the eviction of Nelna Agri Development, a private company, from this 500-acre land. The Director-General of Forest Conservation had filed Case No. 97136/16 against the company. The company has been illegally occupying the land since 2001.
Despite the order of the Magistrate’s Court, the Minister has submitted this Cabinet Memorandum to hand over this land located in the Rahathangama Grama Niladhari Division of the Buttala Divisional Secretariat Division to the relevant company for 30 years.
