The U.S. Navy has also intercepted a group of ships carrying Venezuelan oil en route to Cuba. When the socialist camp collapsed in 1989, Cuba lost 72% (PIB) of its GDP. This year too, tourism and sugar exports lost about 15% due to the Corona epidemic. In the face of these collapses, inflation rose 500%, leading to large queues and a wave of protests across the country.
