Russian President Vladimir Putin has ridiculed Europe and the United States over a trade war over the removal of patent licences for vaccines, urging foreign nationals to come to the country to get vaccinated.
Russia, which developed the world’s first vaccine against the corona epidemic, said a few months ago that its efficiency was a breakthrough that could be compared to its AK-47 machine gun. However, Europe has not yet allowed the Russian vaccine to enter the EU. But Germany and Hungary were still giving the sputinik V vaccine to the people, despite European restrictions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressing the International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 3 condemned the EU’s refusal to remove patent licenses for vaccines which was aimed solely at profit, regardless of the lives of thousands of people affected by the corona epidemic. He also condemned EU policy of barring the sputinik V vaccine from Europe.\
“I urge our Russian citizens to get the sputinik V vaccine for free. I also request our government to make arrangements to provide the vaccine to foreign nationals at a reasonable price. Currently, only about 10% of the world’s population is vaccinated. Some countries have not yet received the vaccine. Until vaccination process is carried out across all continents, there will be no protection against the corona epidemic, ”the Russian president added.
Putin also recalled that Russia has signed agreements for the production of the Sputnik V vaccine in other countries, which will benefit about 3.2 billion people. Given that the efficacy of Sputnik V is 96 percent, he described as “absurd” the bans on the use of this vaccine by certain governments.
Currently, the conflict between the West and the Russian-Chinese front over vaccines is escalating. Meanwhile, Germany has imported 2.5 million Russian sputinik V vaccines, despite protests from the European Commission. Following in the footsteps of Germany, Hungary also received Russian vaccines.
