The government has decided to hold a parliamentary debate on the Ports Commission Bill on May 05 before the decision of the Supreme Court on petitions filed against it is released to the Speaker.
The government has informed about this at the party leaders’ meeting held in Parliament this morning (30th). The JVP has objected to this and has pointed out that no date should be set for the relevant debate before the Supreme Court decision is given to the Speaker. However, the government has stated that the decision will be handed over to the Speaker on May 04 and the debate should be held and passed on May 05.
The JVP and other opposition parties have pointed out that a one-day debate on such an important bill is not enough and that a two-day debate should be held. However, the government has not agreed and had decided to hold a one-day debate.
