Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala yesterday (27) ordered the release of former chairman of the National Lotteries Board Chandrarawansa Pathiraja from four cases filed by the Bribery Commission.
The Bribery Commission had filed a case against him in 2010 alleging that the government had incurred a loss of Rs. 64 million due to his dealings with companies which had not been contracted to promote lottery tickets.
However, the Bribery Commission officials stated before the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday that the charge sheets against the accused will be withdrawn subject to re-filing conditions as the three Commissioners of the Bribery Commission had not given their written consent to the case.
The Chief Magistrate granted the request and directed the Bribery Commission to take further action against the accused within three months.
