Indonesian security forces say a missing submarine with 53 people on board has sunk off the coast of Bali.
Navy Chief Yudo Magano told a news conference that wreckage and cargo had been found in the area where the submarine is believed to have sunk in the past few days.

A scan revealed that the submarine was about 850 meters (2,788 feet) deep.
However, the Navy says the submarine is designed to withstand depths of up to 500 meters (1,640 feet).
The German-made KRI Nanggala-402 submarine went missing early Wednesday morning while carrying out a torpedo drill north of a resort in Bali. The submarine was carrying 53 people, including 49 sailors, one commander and three armed men.
At around 3.00am local time communication with the vessel was cut off after permission for a surface and underwater torpedo was sought.
