Ship that blocked Suez Canal is freed

The giant container ship blocking the Suez Canal has been at least partially refloated, the first step toward getting one of the world’s most important trade arteries moving again.
The MV Evergreen, which was stranded across the Suez Canal due to sandstorms has been set free state the shipowner in a Twitter message.
The ship was stranded for six days across the Suez Canal, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, and a large number of ships had to be anchored in the surrounding area. It is reported that more than 30% of the world’s shipping has been disrupted due to the blockage of the Suez Canal, which has severely affected shipments to and from Europe.
Twelve vessels, including a large tugboat, were involved in the rescue operation and rescue workers said yesterday (28) they were able to move the ship about 30 meters (100 feet) from the area it had been stuck.
There was no immediate clarity on the crucial question of when traffic in the canal will restart. The ship has a damaged hull and it’s not clear how soon it will be able to clear the way for other vessels to pass.
Evergreen–which is longer than the canal is wide and was wedged across the waterway–has been stuck since Tuesday, causing a backlog of hundreds of ships and snarling global supply lines that were already under pressure. Salvage teams used tugs and dredgers to extract the ship’s bow from the sandy bank where it was lodged at least five meters in.
