It is reported that the stock of unrefined coconut oil imported into the country has failed a second quality inspection.
Only the oil stocks of one company that is said to contain the carcinogenic aflatoxin had been tested and failed. Earlier, the media had reported that several companies had imported a large number of metric tons of unrefined coconut oil.
The quality control test was conducted by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution and according to them the consignment of coconut oily had failed the test due to the presence of overdose of aflatoxin. Accordingly, the company that imported the consignment will have to re-export the consignment.
However, there is a strong rumor in the society that the Customs has released the oil containing these carcinogens. This was also discussed in Parliament recently.
