Another stock of carcinogenic coconut oil released from customs

It is reported that containers of imported coconut oil the Ministry of Health has identified as containing confirmed carcinogens have been released.

The Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health had identified high levels of the carcinogen Aflotoxin in samples of 13 containers of coconut oil imported by four companies.
The containers were released on the 23rd despite the unit instructing them to immediately re-export the containers as they should not be released to the market.

However, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena Speaking in Parliament today said that consumers could be notified if there was any unfavorable coconut oil in the market.
