About two weeks ago, Namal Rajapaksa declared in Parliament that no member of their family would flee out of fear. However, Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s abrupt departure to Singapore and her subsequent absence have raised serious concerns among the public over whether she will return at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, social media users have been revisiting the events of May 9, 2022, when Mahinda Rajapaksa and the entire Rajapaksa family fled to hide at the Trincomalee Naval Base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although Namal Rajapaksa’s statement attempted to obscure the family’s history of fleeing during crises, Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s failure to return has brought the discussion surrounding the Rajapaksas’ history of escaping back into the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
