{"id":29399,"date":"2026-08-29T23:59:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T18:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=29399"},"modified":"2026-08-30T00:12:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T18:42:52","slug":"ravi-karunanayake-evades-bribery-commission-summons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=29399","title":{"rendered":"Ravi Karunanayake Evades Bribery Commission Summons"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake continues to evade summons issued by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), failing to appear despite being called on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation pertains to the unauthorized recruitment of five contract employees to the National Lotteries Board (NLB) outside established protocols, who were subsequently attached to Karunanayake&#8217;s personal staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timeline of summonses and non-appearances includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">July 16: Summoned for the first time, but Karunanayake failed to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">July 30: Summoned for a second time, which he avoided citing his daughter&#8217;s wedding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">August 28: Summoned for a third time, but failed to appear claiming his lawyer was unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following these absences, the Bribery Commission informed him to appear today (August 29), warning that failure to comply will result in immediate legal action against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In connection with the same investigation, former National Lotteries Board Chairperson Sharmila Perera was previously arrested and released on two personal bails of Rs. 1 million each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S.
