However, critics argue that MP Dayasiri Jayasekara has degraded to an even worse level when interpreting law and judicial decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest example highlights his recent statement regarding SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison by the High Court over an assault on a police officer in 2019. Commenting on the verdict, Jayasekara, despite being a lawyer, stated that the matter should have been resolved through a mediation board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Legal experts have severely criticized Jayasekara&#8217;s remark, pointing out that claiming an assault on a police officer should be settled by a mediation board demonstrates a stark disregard for the rule of law
