America has imposed sanctions and visa restrictions on Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO of SriLankan Airlines, and Udayanga Weeratunga, the former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia.
It is part of the US’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption.
The US has accused Kapila Chandrasena of accepting bribes to buy Airbus planes and Udayanga Weeratunga of running a corrupt scheme to buy MiG planes for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The US State Department has released the names of both of them and their immediate family members under Section 7031(c), and they are barred from entering the country.

Pursuant to Section 7031(c), the State Department has publicly named Kapila Chandrasena as involved in significant corruption. While Chandrasena was the CEO of SriLankan Airlines, he accepted a bribe to ensure the purchase of Airbus aircraft above market value. His immediate family members have also been named as part of this action.

Under Section 7031(c), the State Department has publicly named Udayanga Weeratunga as involved in significant corruption. He has personally benefited from a corrupt scheme involving the purchase of MiG aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force. His immediate family members have also been named as part of this proces<\/p>\n
