Dr. Samindhi Samarakoon, Director of the Ministry of Health’s Non-communicable Diseases Unit, says that 45% of the country’s population suffers from high blood pressure, one of the most common non-communicable diseases.
She emphasizes that high blood pressure is simply an increased rate of blood circulation in the body, which causes many diseases.
Dr. Samindhi Samarakoon added that to avoid high blood pressure, one should follow proper health habits, including a good diet, and measure one’s blood pressure periodically. She said sudden deaths due to the disease can be prevented by seeking proper medical treatment.
She said this while speaking to the media on the occasion of World High Blood Pressure Day, which fell yesterday (17). She also said that this year’s theme was “Measure and control your blood pressure correctly and live a long life.”<\/p>\n
