A Verite Research survey has revealed that 56% of the people aware of the Act on the security of online systems say that it violates freedom.
One-third of the survey participants (34%) when asked whether they were aware of the bill the government submitted to Parliament to regulate behaviour in social media, had answered ‘yes’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Verite Research states that 56% of those who answered ‘yes’ said that ‘freedom to use social media will also decrease’. 25% said ‘it will not make much difference’, and 19% said ‘social media misuse will decrease’.
The Act on the Security of Online Systems, which was gazetted on the 18th of September, was tabled in the Parliament on the 3rd of October. The purpose of this is to establish a commission on the security of online systems, and it is said that the bill has given it special powers and duties.
However, the Supreme Court had ruled that 31 articles mentioned in it should be amended to pass the Act by a simple majority in the Parliament. It needs the approval of a two-thirds special majority of the Parliament to pass the bill in its current state.<\/p>\n
