His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, says that the way the law is being implemented regarding the Easter attack shows that the law is not applied equally to all the people of the country and that President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s appointment of another committee regarding the Easter attack is a blindfold and the way the country’s leaders are behaving is shameful.
He expressed these views while participating in the service held on the 125th anniversary of Saint Mary’s Church at Kalamulla in Kalutara.
“I must say this for those 273 people killed in the Easter bombing that day. Now, the leader of this country has decided to appoint a separate committee in this regard, headed by a retired judge and with the participation of two others, to analyze the facts of the programme shown by Channel 04.
I want to ask the country’s leader that a parliamentary selection committee was appointed that day. These are blindfolds. There should be a law in this country. Shame on the way the leaders of this country are behaving. There is nothing else to say.
Appoint more committees. However, we know what happens in the end from those committees. There is no such thing as justice in this country. None of the leaders who ruled this country tried to implement many of the recommendations made in the presidential commission report. They will appoint more commissions, bring more constitutions and change the country’s laws. A new law, the Prevention of Terrorism Act, will be brought.
Sometimes, these leaders behave like terrorists. That is why they need to bring these bills, to control themselves. The law acts differently from person to person. That is not justifiable. If there is a law in this country, that law should be common to everyone. We cannot act thinking that it does not matter whether they are alive or not. If any human being is in trouble, we should be responsible for that person’s life.
According to the information given by Channel 4 about the death of Mr. Lasantha Wickramatunga, was there any investigation? Did they find out who killed him? Was there an honest investigation? Did you properly find out who killed the member named Joseph Pararajasingham? How many people have died in the last 15, 20 years without even a single trial? The same thing will happen to 273 people who died. Therefore, it is not appropriate for our leaders to brag about this lie and walk all over the country and lie that we are fair, and go to Geneva and not pay even two cents to the report they have presented, and come and kick it and throw it away.”<\/p>\n
