{"id":19559,"date":"2022-09-19T09:53:06","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T04:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=19559"},"modified":"2024-05-08T13:12:03","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T07:42:03","slug":"temples-will-be-dark-on-next-poya-day-protest-against-electricity-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=19559","title":{"rendered":"Temples will be dark on next poya day \u2013 Protest against electricity bill\u2026\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A proposal has been submitted to the Central Province Maha Sangha Sabha to turn off the lights of all the temples in the island on the upcoming Vap Pohya day as a protest against the increase in electricity bills in religious places.<br \/>The Central Provincial Maha Sangha Council meeting was held yesterday (18th) afternoon and a group of Bhikkus have made the proposal, and the Bhikkus have said that \u2018Dayaka Sabha\u2019 (Laymen\u2019s Council) should also be included for this purpose.<br \/>Speaking after the meeting, Ven. Galaha Sirisantha Thero commenting on the proposal, said, &#8220;The electricity bill in the temples has increased five to six times. The electricity bill of my temple is now 60,000 rupees.<br \/>In the current situation, we will not be able to put a light in a temple in the near future. Especially, the season of Katina Cheevara Pinkama is ahead. We strongly suspect this is a conspiracy to keep temples in the dark during times like Vesak and Pozon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we propose that on the upcoming Poya Day, we will turn off the electricity in all the temples, keep the temples in darkness, and protest this government&#8217;s move with the latmen.
