The President yesterday (4th) removed Minister of State Susil Premajayantha from his post due to a statement he made to the media at the Delkanda Fair premises. Former President Maithripala Sirisena, the chairman of the SLFP, reacted to the incident in a somewhat contradictory manner at a ceremony held today.
Speaking to the media, he said, “This government is an alliance. Thirteen political parties have come together to form this government. Some gentlemen who are tempered with the bud say that 69 lakhs are theirs. No. 69 lakhs are not theirs. The government will not be able to prevent the events of 2022 by removing only one minister. If the government corrects itself, if the government starts doing the right thing and recognizes the people’s sufferings, that split can be prevented. The people are suffering without fertilizer. Even in the time of the English rulers, the peasants were not given such pain. Who was punished for changing the composition of gas when the gas exploded in homes in this country? How many died? It explodes even at this moment. Neither the chairman of Litro Gas nor the board of directors was asked to resign. Susil was removed for what he said on the way to the market. Three days ago, Minister Lansa made a harsher statement. However, Minister Lansa has not been removed. I know the reason for his not removal.
