People in the western part of Athikehelgalla in Weliweriya have staged an agitation demanding a vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say their village, which is at high risk of contacting the covid virus, has not yet been given a single dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They point out that the second wave of covid reported more infections in their village and that their village had recently been isolated for more than 14 days.
More than 150 families live in the village say villagers and say, \u201cOur area has been closed for more than 14 days. Vaccination has been carried out in all the surrounding villages. But Athikehelgalla West area, which is a high risk area, was not vaccinated. Therefore, the villagers decided to carry out an agitation campaign to get the vaccines. We are making this request because this is a high risk area. We are also prepared to fast unto death to get the vaccination.\u201d
Another said, \u201cIf I were the only one dying, I would not ask for the vaccine. If I am infected, everyone in the house will also get infected. That’s why we ask for vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They further point out that a new cluster of covid has been re-emerging in the eastern part of Athikehelgalla since the day before.<\/p>\n
