{"id":14295,"date":"2021-06-25T09:40:16","date_gmt":"2021-06-25T04:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=14295"},"modified":"2024-05-14T10:46:01","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:16:01","slug":"basil-to-parliament-a-professor-to-be-snuffed-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=14295","title":{"rendered":"Basil to Parliament \u2013 a professor to be snuffed out?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basil Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka People&#8217;s Front founder, who returned to the island yesterday (24th) morning after spending more than a month in the United States, will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament on the 6th, according to political sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is expected to enter Parliament as a National List Member of Parliament for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).<br \/>It is also reported that Prof. Ranjith Bandara, the National List MP of the SLPP, is to resign to allow Basil Rajapaksa to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to government sources, after being appointed as a Member of Parliament, Basil Rajapaksa will be sworn in, on the same afternoon, before President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as the Cabinet Minister of Finance and Economic Development.<br \/>He is also expected to reduce the increased petrol prices by Rs.5 to 7 and diesel by Rs. 3 to 5 after he is sworn in as a minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basil Rajapaksa also served as the Cabinet Minister of Economic Development in the Rajapaksa Government from 2010-2015.
