{"id":14283,"date":"2021-06-24T10:20:54","date_gmt":"2021-06-24T04:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=14283"},"modified":"2024-05-14T10:46:03","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:16:03","slug":"government-preparing-to-jump-into-debt-of-one-billion-rupees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lankatruth.com\/en\/?p=14283","title":{"rendered":"Government preparing to jump into debt of one billion rupees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance has approved to increase the maximum credit limit on Treasury Bills from Rs. 2000000 million to Rs. 3000000 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposal was made by Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and was approved on the 22nd. The committee, chaired by Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance, met online and gave its approval.<br \/>Accordingly, the government has been given the opportunity to obtain a loan of up to Rs. 3000000 million by issuing Treasury bills for government expenditure within the next six months. By the end of last year, the government&#8217;s total debt burden had exceeded Rs 15 trillion. This sum of Rs. 3000000 which can be obtained only by issuing Treasury bills, is added to that total loan amount.<br \/>Accordingly, the total debt of the government will move to a very high level in a short period of time.
